The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT. The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting. The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the wall. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the main straight. The veteran finished practice in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace. The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
